On hold for awhile

It really seems that my time is just too precious to give away to anything other than that which benefits my family. I was able to learn to knit and had a few knitting gatherings, made a new friend in Dodie, and learned to crochet a bit as well. I would like to do more, but timing, and the needs of the house and home are far more important right now than continuing in my Chapter. I do intend to pick it back up again, it might be a summer thing. I haven't decided yet. Anyway, thanks to those who came for the classes and for joining me in learning a little of the handiwork crafts.

p.s. If I get more interest in the Chapter then we'll pull out the paddles and revive this!

Knitting success

The knitting gathering the past two weeks has been a success. I have completed my first washcloth and just showered with it and it didn't unravel. That is a great "mission accomplished" for me. The great lady who was showing us how to knit has offered atleast one more class, showing us how to make scrubbies for our dishes, using vinyl netting. Sounds very interesting wouldn't you say? I have really enjoyed our knitting maven, and I think she's enjoyed this as well. I have a few ideas for November and December projects for the Hens, but I'll post more on that when I have dates and locations to announce.
Thanks to those of you who joined us, I hope you learned as much as I did!

The class is this Thursday the 18th of September and we have room for two more attendees. Please email me or post here if you would like to come. It's from 1:30-3:30. Bring a size 7 knitting needle, found at Walmart in the crafting section to the right of the yarn.

a little fun

The boys Papa let me get up in his workshop and play with his wood, wood burners and paint and I've had a little fun. I can't wait to get back home and post a picture of what I've made.

UPDATE: I'm home and my camera isn't cooperating. I think it's giving up the ghost. I'll have to think of something else to show you what I've made.

Dishcloths!

Wouldn't you like to make these adorable dishcloths!
Or some groovy ones like these! I know I would. I do NOT know how to knit! Who wants to teach me and who else would like to learn? I am hoping that somebody can come through with a lovely elderly lady who can teach myself and some friends how to make these. Great for our use and also great as gifts! Homespun Hens, making homespun things for our friends and family. Now isn't that what being a farmgirl is about!?!

Next project ideas?

I'm thinking about doing another Susie homemaker project. I would really like to learn how to knit a dishcloth. I think that would be an easy enough project, and one that we can start together and finish later on.
Other ideas are:
Pincushions
Fabric lunch totes
hand embroidered towels or cloth napkins.

I bought some embroidery thread last night and I'm going to start with a napkin. I want it to say "home is where the heart is" .....it will be the napkin that goes in Scott's lunch bag and will remind him to bring it, and the lunch bag, home.
Any other ideas? Something my friends here would like to learn how to make?

Market Bags

Our project is to make Market Bags. The cashier at WalMart says that they'll stop carrying the plastic bags "soon"...Better to have these made or at least know HOW to make them, than to be empty handed and forced to buy the stores brand of bags.

Here's your supply list:

Cotton fabric of your choosing, cut into 42 by 20 inch rectangles. For each rectangle you'll need TWO rectangles cut 22 by 4 inches (these are going to be the straps).
Matching or coordinating thread for your sewing machine.
Sewing Machine
Fabric scissors
fabric pins

I'll have an ironing board/iron set up for use. I'll also provide drinks and cookies. If someone wants to bring M&M's please do! M&M's and crafting go very well together.
Have a look at this site to get an idea of what we're going to do.

Be at my house at 10:30 this Friday morning. Bring your kids and your picnic lunch. Expect to be here until just after 1pm. See you then!

p.s. first one to RSVP get something sewn by me!
